For my master’s thesis on the artists James Turrell, Robert Irwin and Douglas Wheeler, I cataloged over 2000 solo and group exhibitions by 34 artists.
Here are two visualizations of the proximity/distance relationships resulting from the group exhibitions in the field section. The former assumes that the connections via the exhibitions have existed over the entire continuous period, while the latter limits the duration of the connection to 5 years from the year of the exhibition, for example.
The data collection took place with the help of countless sources such as CVs, catalogs and archives and was compiled in an MS Access database. I then imported this data into the Gephi program via spreadsheet exports and filmed it there as an animation.
